praying for a new year's eve miracle.

i'm having a new year's eve, carnival-themed party.  i'm sure i've probably mentioned this a million times already but, for those of us just joining in... yeah, that's what's happening.  unfortunately, i'm also coming to the realization that i have nothing to wear to said event and, with only one day off left before the 31st, there's no chance of a last-minute power-shop.

so, with zero time left to find myself a get-up, i do what any sensible girl would do, and i get online... just so i can drool over what i won't be wearing this new year's eve...

how perfect would this have been?!

hello, rainbow lovely!

"cotton candy!  popcorn!  come 'n get it!"

"oh, this ol' thing?"

heart. breaking.  million.  pieces.

kissing booth-friendly

some of these are more "country fair" than "carnival" but... don't matter anyhow 'cause ol' betty sue here stills got nothun' to wear to the jamboree.

sniffle.

2010: the year in hair.

i'm officially declaring 2010 as the year of the braid.  yep... definitely....

fishtail or french...

there were also a lot of bohemian/messy/loose buns...

side or centered...  high or low...

and hair knots...

and loose/romantic curls...

 and going short...

this fall, i had an unusually large percentage of female clients cut off a substantial amount of hair.  most, however, didn't go as short as michelle williams or emma watson, and opted for different variations of the longer bob, which, in my opinion, is definitely the best in-between style.

predictions for 2011: polished messiness/more of this. the whole return-to-the-80s thing seems to have moved into the 90s... and 90s was grunge... so, i suspect we'll see more waves, curls and messiness, but a more polished version than the 90s.  probably other stuff too but i'm not psychic so i'd better just leave it at that.

i'm spending christmas on my own this year.  my parents are in africa, my brother's in wales, and my guy's in arizona.  it sounds super depressing when you tell people that you're alone on christmas day but it's actually quite nice...

it's 5pm and i'm still in my PJs...
i had president's choice decadent chocolate chip cookies for breakfast...
i texted my guy...
played christmas songs on the piano...
watched the VHS tape of the peter, paul & mary holiday concert that my mom and i usually watch at christmas, did that twice actually...
i scanned a lifetime's worth of old family photos...
called friends and favourite cousins...
typed out and printed a list of frequently-called phone numbers....
watched another VHS tape of a sinead o'connor concert i taped off of muchmusic about 500 years ago...
and the likelihood of me bathing today is... well... it's probably not gonna happen.

all in all, a very good day.

plans for tonight: make coconut shrimp, make crafts, watch my two favourite movies ("before sunrise" and "before sunset")

i sure hope you're having a good christmas.  if you're not, hang in there.  it's almost over.

♥.

musical OCD: all songs considered.

as i mentionned in an earlier post, i was on mission last night to find new music to wrap my arms around, love, honour and cherish.  after listening to all (yes, ALL) of NPR's All Songs Considered's songs of the day from this past year, here are the little treasures that will make their way to my playlist:

i'm behind on what happened this year, musically speaking. it's not my fault, i pretty much did nothing but cut hair from may onward. at any rate, maybe you're in the same boat as me, in which case you should know that, in a move reminiscent of the jack white/loretta lynn/van lear rose collaboration of 2004, jeff tweedy (of wilco fame) produced a mavis staples album. this video is not the best quality but it's the best i could find.

i'm gonna stop now before i blow up the internet.

adventures in puces poppery.

my friend, audrey, and i puces popped it up today.  there was so much cuteness, i kind of lost my mind...
