the most useful things i've learned, part 1.

Clipboard

when i'm in a situation that's unpleasant or that i'm unhappy with, i like to remember that there are only really 2 options:

(1) ask myself whether there is anyway i can change, improve or remove myself from the situation.  if so, take action.  if not, (2) accept the situation completely.  the quality of whatever i'm doing or creating will be enhanced immeasurably through nonresistance.

i also try to use the situation as an exercice in surrendering.  in my mind, i'll tell myself: "let's see how patient i can be right now/let's just see how good i can be at surrendering to that over which i have no control".  if i turn it into a game... me against the unpleasant situation... me against anger, ignorance, impatience... me against my own crankiness... i find it easier to not let it get the best of me.

(i learned this from the power of now)
