i was at the movies this weekend and saw the trailer for silver linings playbook. granted, it looks quirky and funny enough but... am i the only person who thinks that jennifer lawrence (age 22) is too young to be playing bradley cooper's (age 38) love interest? i haven't seen the movie (it's not even out yet) so maybe there's a reason in the script why the female lead needs to be that much younger than the male lead but maybe there isn't.
and then i was renting movies (that's pretty much all i did this weekend.... november, you are not my favourite of all the months) and noticed the same thing going on in that we bought a zoo movie. male lead: matt damon (age 41 the year the movie was released), female lead: scarlett johansson (age 27 the year the movie was released). again, i haven't seen it but i suspect foul play.
cameron crowe, i expected more from you.
i'm not trying to be the age-appropriate movie police here and, just to be clear, in real life, i think people should date whoever they stinkin' want no matter what their age but... this is kind of bullshit. it just feels like some male executive producer big wigs thinking they need hot female leads and picking the youngest ones they can get away with casting. not ok, hollywood. NOT. OK.
i had to antidote the whole thing by watching thelma & louise. female leads: geena davis (age 35 the year the movie was released) and susan sarandon (age 45 the year the movie was released), looking hot as all get-out and giving 20 somethings everywhere a serious run for their money.
