while they're gone, i want to scan our family photos so i brought back boxes full of photo albums. the first night i was there, i stayed up until 1:30am looking through them. the scary thing is, that isn't even all of them. there are more somewhere. my mom and i just didn't look that hard.
my mom had great hair.
matching sweaters!
i think i was 7 here.
my mom made swiss steak which has been my all-time favourite mom-made meal for as long as i can remember. proof: this is me (on the right) and my old neighbour, wendy, eating swiss steak in 1980.
i also managed to get some much-needed shopping done. i actually really like shopping in kingston. i feel like i always do well there... better than in montreal... which is weird considering montreal is the 2nd biggest city in canada, and kingston is... well... tiny. but i like that all of the shops in kingston are on the same street (princess), that they aren't packed and that there's only a handful of good ones so you know exactly where to go and you know exactly when you're done.
i got a dress and this sweater from urban outfitters:
(it's cuter in real life than it is in this pic)
while i was there, i saw this necklace that i really like:
the one i saw in the store didn't have that loop on the top of it. it just had the chain wrapped around the stone, which is why i liked it. i love stones but they're impossible to wear as jewellery unless they're pierced or set. anyway, i just liked the idea of wrapping the stone in a chain or string and wearing it around your neck.
on sunday night, i watched a fascinating and disturbing documentary called food inc. if you haven't seen it, you should.
note to self: do not let your mother send you back with a box full of homemade meals and homebaked goods. upon your arrival back home, you will cut off tiny pieces of the chocolate squares until you realize that you've eaten half of the pan. you will then spend the rest of the evening in a spiral of shame.
