the lingering smell of carnies.

i can't believe it's already 4 days into the new year... but that's probably because i spent the first 3 recovering from new year's eve.

so, yeah... NYE carnival picture time!  the only thing i regret about that night is that i didn't take more pics... so some of these are from before the party started...

this was the photo booth.  it was basically just wrapping paper which we'd taped to the wall, some christmas lights, and a sign made out of bristle board.  i was impressed at how good wrapping paper can look on a wall.  i know it's not as durable as wallpaper but for a twentieth of the price, it's worth considering...

we had to have moustaches on a stick... they're just too cute!  i cut the shapes out of black cardboard, then out of black felt.  glued the felt ones to the carboard ones and then epoxied chopsticks to them.

there were also bowties, which my co-host and good friend, lise, made out of ribbon...

some were pins, some were barrettes and some were bracelets.

the shooter booth was popular.  i forgot to take pics that night but it basically looked like this except darker, and covered in a jillion shooter glasses...

total last minute decision: we made this square out of white balloons (and one red one) which we taped to the wall.  it was probably the easiest and most simple thing we did but ended up being one of my favourite decorations of all.

... token kissing booth...

i used a little desk i have in the studio, spun it around and just covered it with cardboard.  i got some white carpet moulding/trim stuff at the hardware store and had it cut in two to hold the sign up   easy peasie lemon squeezie.  i printed up the lettering from my computer, cut it out, glued it to the carboard and then to the bristle board.

best.  new year's.  ever.
